Eragrostis (lovegrass) ist Klasse von Poaceae (Gras-Familie) und der Namensvetter des Stamms Eragrostideae. Es würde darin bleiben, so lange diese Gruppe gültig nach der Revision von Chloridoideae bleibt, selbst wenn andere in Eragrostideae jetzt gelegte Klassen anderswohin bewegt werden. Der Name der Klasse wird aus den griechischen Wörtern ερως (eros) abgeleitet, "Liebe", und  (agrostis) bedeutend, "Gras" bedeutend.

Einige werden von vorübergehenden Tieren verstreut; die Haken der Körner klinken sich auf dem Pelz oder Haar, oder zur Kleidung ein. Andere sind Wind oder verstreuter Ernst. Mehrere Pflanzenfresser füttern mit lovegrass, es wirbellose Tiere - z.B Falter-Raupen wie diejenigen des Zabulon Kapitäns (Poanes zabulon) - oder Wirbeltiere, wie erloschener Bluebuck (Hippotragus leucophaeus) sein. Die dichten Bündel dieser Gräser stellen auch zur Verfügung vertreten kleine Tiere wie der Spatz des seltenen Botteris (Aimophila botterii); lovegrasses kann Boden-Deckel der Schlüsselwichtigkeit auf ozeanischen Inseln wie Laysan sein, wo andere Werke selten sind.

Sie können als Viehbestand-Futter verwendet werden, die Samen scheinen, vom äußerst hohen Nährwert mindestens in einigen Arten zu sein, aber sie sind auch äußerst winzig und sich sie für das Essen versammelnd ist beschwerlich und nicht gewöhnlich getan. Eine bemerkenswerte Ausnahme ist Teff (E. tef), verwendet, um die meisten traditionellen Brote des Hornes Afrikas zu machen: Äthiopischer injera und Somalian laxoox, und angebaut als ein Getreide der kommerziellen Wichtigkeit. E. clelandii und E. tremula werden als Hungersnot-Nahrungsmittel in Australien und dem Tschad beziehungsweise registriert.

Andere Arten, z.B. E. amabilis, werden als dekorative Werke verwendet. E. cynosuroides wird in den pūjā Riten im hinduistischen Tempel an Karighatta verwendet. Bahia Lovegrass (E. bahiensis) ist als ein Hyperakkumulator von Cäsium 137 bekannt und kann gewachsen werden, um diese hoch toxischen und radioaktiven Atome von der Umgebung zu entfernen. Das Weinen lovegrass (E. curvula) ist umfassend gepflanzt worden, um Boden-Erosion zu bekämpfen.
